BLURB

Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College—Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s wondering how she’ll get through it. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is—unless she betrays the man she loves.

Although Violet’s body is weaker and frailer than everyone else’s, she has her wits—and a will of iron. Leadership forgets the most important lesson Basgiath taught her: Dragon riders make their own rules. But determination to survive won’t be enough this year, because Violet knows the secret hidden for centuries at Basgiath War College—and nothing, not even dragon fire, may be enough to save them in the end.

MY OPINION

Again, it was hard to sum up all my thoughts, when I finished „Iron Flame”. The second installment of „The Empyrean” series starts, when „Fourth Wing” ends. So right now, if you are a later reader of this adventure, you are also a happy reader, because you don't need to wait with this crazy cliffhanger.

It was a smooth transition between books, which made me thankful that I waited two years until third book was published. But I was also shocked, because in „Iron Flame” Violet is a totally diffrent person, than we met in the first part. Without Xaden, she is unstoppable, strong and brave, She is taking her life in her hands and she knows exactly what she needs to achieve her target. I am so proud of her!

The distance between Violet and Xaden is also pretty nice written. They love each other, but this emotion is not so easy for both of them. After events in „Fourth Wing” Violet has a problem with trust and Riorson needs to find the way to her heart. Of course she is still loving him, but not in the way we met in the first book.

Action in this book is also diffrent than previous one. In „Fourth Wing” we have action at all pages. Here we have some moments, when is calm. But calm at Rebecca Yarros books never meant boredom. With our heroine we have a lot of things to check, do and protect. In my opinion „Iron Flame” is keeping the level, which „Foruth Wing” started.

The second book in „The Empyrean” series was unputdownable. Again!
To me this is a honest five star read. I stayed up all night to read and every page of this story was a pure pleasure to me. Ending... *sigh* I can't wait to read the third book, but I am so fuc*ing scared that „Onyx Storm” will be my end. Where is a book number four? I need it before I finish the third part. In the end both „Fourth Wing” and „Iron Flame” are the must read for every fantasy/romantasy reader.
