„The Wings That Bind” by Briar Boleyn

BLURB

The night's chaos left us breathless. Now the real nightmare begins.

In the wake of last winter's tragedies, through loss and heartbreak, we somehow made it to a new year. But our fight is far from over.

A second dragon has awoken--her heart tainted, and her power commandeered by two ruthless highbloods who will stop at nothing to uncover the dangerous, bloody secrets at the borders of Sangratha. Their cruelty knows no bounds.

Florence, my dearest friend, teetered on the brink of death. A dragon saved her, but now she's tied to him in a way I can scarcely understand. What will this new bond do to the woman I've come to love as a sister?

And then there's Blake. Once my relentless tormentor, then the keeper of my heart... he betrayed me again, nearly condemning Nyxaris to a cursed, stone-cold fate. But something has shifted in him. His gray eyes hide a secret he's desperate to protect. I saved Blake's life, despite everything. Yet with every heartbeat, I have to question where we go from here.

With Bloodwing Academy in turmoil and a new headmaster no one saw coming, only one thing is certain: This is going to be one hell of a year.

MY OPINION

Um… hello?
Briar, where is book number four?
What did I just read?
Can I go into hibernation and have someone wake me up when “With Hearts of Flame” is released?

The third installment of the “Bloodwing Academy” series is a completely different book compared to the previous two.
Here, Briar Boleyn brings Florence forward as a main heroine, giving her a much bigger role in this dragons-and-vampires adventure. But it’s not just Florence — we get multiple POVs, even from characters we don’t like (you know who I mean).

Multiple POVs can be both a good and a bad thing.
Why?
Because it really depends on the reader. Some people won’t enjoy switching perspectives, while others will love seeing the story from different angles.

“The Wings That Bind” feels like a calm read for the first 28 chapters.
The remaining chapters (40 in total) are a full-on rollercoaster of action, plot twists, and эмоtions. So be prepared. At first, you can read it slowly and chill — but after chapter 28? You’ll need a big mug of coffee, because there’s no stopping.

Book three ends on a BIG CLIFFHANGER. And when I say big… I mean BIG. Bigger than in the previous books. Waiting for book four is going to be cruel. Very cruel.

In “The Wings That Bind”, we also get a lot more spice. Medra and Blake finally understand that they belong together — that they need each other. Their scenes are so hot and addictive that I flew through them… and then immediately regretted it, because the book ended way too fast.
Briar, why can’t you give us a 700-page story?
Pretty please?

In the end, I cannot wait for the final book in the series.
I need answers to all my questions.
I’m in love with “Bloodwing Academy”.
I’m in love with Medra and Blake, and I really hope they remain the main focus in the next book.

So now… I just have to sit patiently and wait for “With Hearts of Flame”.

If you haven’t read this series yet and you’re looking for something with dragons, an academy, and vampires — I highly recommend giving “Bloodwing Academy” a try.
And honestly? I’m a little jealous that you’re just starting this adventure.
