„You're next” by Tate James
BLURB
Dear Reader,
I’ve spent too many nights caught between reality and nightmare, each bleeding into the other like a twisted dream I can’t wake from. The Devil’s Backbone Society continues to host our deepest terrors.
The weight of betrayal crushes me, pressing down on my chest—bitter and suffocating. I don’t know what would be losing the ones I love, the ones who have become my anchors, or losing myself entirely.
In the end, is there even a difference?
MY OPINION
THIS IS THE THIRD BOOK IN SERIES – STOP READING HERE IF YOU DIDN”T READ PREVIOUS TWO BOOKS.
First two books were nice, but I was still waiting for true, TRUE reverse harem. In „You're next” I finally had what I wanted. But not everything in this last book of „Devil's Backbone” series is good. Let's start from the beginning.
After a big cliffhanger in book number two, Tate James is putting us to the continuation. This book is starting, when the last was finished. The first few chapters are taking us to lonely Ashley who is trying to solve all Abigail messages in a psychiatric hospital. Boys are looking for her but they don't have any idea where their girl can be. In the end they are finding her, but... everything of this is too easy.
I really like spicy scenes here. The last one is the best. This is the reverse harem, so be prepared for everything and of course check trigger warnings before start reading.
But... Tate James in this series did a background, about society, Abigail and her diary. I thougth that these things will be described and explained. No. They aren't. After read last page of „You're next” I know the same, as I knew after second book. I have thinking that the author wanted do write something with secret society, but she didn't have a good plan how to write it. And in the end all things which were really interesting in the first book, here are boring and not explaining the main plot. That's sad.
The ending is written toooooo fast, carelessly and totally rashly. Like „oh I have 300 pages of the book I need to end it fast” and then BUM – the end without any sense.
I am dissappointed. Even the really nice spicy scenes and of course the boys (Royce <3) cannot change my mind. „Devil's Backbone” could be a nice series with reverse harem, but nope. Society in this book doesn't have any sense and the final installment of the series isn't giving the answers for all questions. The potential was there but it was not exploited.
