BLURB
This Sleeping Beauty woke up...
In a nightmare.
From Wall Street Journal bestsellers L.J. Shen and Parker S. Huntington comes a twisted second-chance romance between a prince haunted by a dark secret and his reluctant Sleeping Beauty.
Oliver
I don’t usually trap women with amnesia into marriage.
But I guess there’s a first time for everything.
When the woman of my dreams falls into my lap, I can’t help but wonder what else she can do in that position.
She’s here. In my house. At my mercy.
And she thinks we’ve been lovers the entire decade we spent apart.
Briar and I have always been unfinished business.
Now it’s time to seal the deal.
Briar
I’m marrying a beautiful monster.
A crooked fraud. America’s wealthiest bachelor.
He claims we’re in love, yet all I taste in our kisses is hate and lust.
I don’t remember why or how.
But I do remember he’s the enemy.
Now, I’m stuck inside a nightmare.
And Oliver will do anything to keep me in the dark.
MY OPINION
This time I was prepared, when „My Dark Prince” came to my Kindle. I started reading this story immediately, because I was in shocked how long it is.
The story of Oliver and Briar intertwines many themes. It starts with the classic trope of friends turning into enemies, only to later become lovers. It weaves through family secrets and exceptionally cruel parents, touching on ruined lives and redemption. All of this constantly simmers within the plot. Yet, it’s so well-written that we never feel overwhelmed by it all.
I love the interactions between the characters—how Oliver treated Briar despite past mistakes. I also enjoyed the part where Briar sought revenge. There isn't a single character here that feels unlikable. Each one has something that sets them apart, and their stories are unique. I liked Sebastian the most, but not because I felt sorry for him—rather because he’s the one truly trying to break through his own walls. I really hope Seb gets his own story.
My Dark Prince is a book that pulls you into its depths from the very first pages and doesn’t let go until the very end. There are 100 chapters, including the epilogue, but they’re so short that they fly by, and before you know it, you're halfway through the book. It’s been a long time since I read a romance that truly captivated me, so I was surprised by how quickly I devoured this one. Everything flows seamlessly, there are no overly explicit scenes between the characters, and the entire story is absolutely worth reading.
