„Threshing Day” by Rebecca Yarros

BLURB

Welcome to Threshing Day, the brutal, high-stakes trial where would-be riders at Basgiath War College fight to earn the bond of a dragon or die trying. Amid ruthless competition and dragon fire, these thirteen cadets must survive a battlefield where desperate rivals will do anything to gain an advantage and dragons decide one’s ultimate fate―and where a single choice can forge a rider…or destroy them.

Xaden Riorson, the powerful leader. Rhiannon Matthias, the clever friend. Dain Aetos, the dutiful rule-follower. Liam Mairi, the kindhearted protector. Ridoc Gamlyn, the jokester. Sawyer Henrick, the underdog. Garrick Tavis, the dependable aide. Imogen Cardulo, the impulsive fighter. Bodhi Durran, the second-in-command. Mira Sorrengail, the fearless rider. Brennan Sorrengail, the brilliant tactician. Aaric Graycastle, the restless royal. Sloane Mairi, the determined sister.

On Threshing Day, there’s only one rule: don’t die.

MY OPINION

I was waiting for this book like a fisherman waits for fish!

When “Threshing Day” appeared on my Kindle, I wanted to read this short novella immediately—but also slowly, at the same time.
I wanted to devour this book, but also savor every moment while reading it.

Now that I’ve finished it, I’m somewhere between rereading the “Empyrean” series and rereading the books I need to remind myself of before the next book in the series comes out.
Rebecca Yarros knows exactly what to write to keep all the fans hooked.

“Threshing Day” is a short novella consisting of thirteen stories, each told from a different character’s POV. The main theme is, of course, Threshing Day, just like the title says. We get to experience the Threshing alongside heroes we already know from the main books.

But... that’s not everything.
This smart little novella opens up a lot of suspicious little details, and the “Fourth Wing” fandom has already started coming up with new theories.

The problem with “Threshing Day” is only one.
This book is too short.

As I was slowly getting closer to the end, I started reading more and more slowly just to make the experience last a little longer. And that was really hard to do because, at the same time, I wanted to read it as fast as possible and find out what happened in every story immediately.

What about the heroes?
Every reader will find someone here to love the most.

I am even more in love with Garrick now.
This is my man.

Xaden? That's obvious.
Dain? Hm... he has his moments here too.

As for the girls, my favorite was—and still is—Imogen.
Don’t judge me right now. I know what you’re thinking.

“Threshing Day” is a nice little novella for everyone impatiently waiting for the fourth book. You’ll feel a little calmer while reading these stories, but later... the two wolves will start fighting inside you. ?

Anyway, I’m happy I didn’t wait to read this book, because it was really nice to meet all these characters again, even if only for a moment.

And now comes the real question:
What the hell am I supposed to do while waiting again?
