„The Bond That Burns” by Briar Boleyn
BLURB
At Bloodwing Academy, blood is currency, but a dragon's legacy is priceless—and as dangerous as fire.
I thought surviving my first year in Bloodwing's deadly halls would be enough. I was wrong.
I accidentally woke a dragon—a creature of myth, of death, of fire.
Now every highblood house wants control over me and the dragon's legacy I carry. But here's the truth: I have no control. I'm bluffing my way through every encounter, trying to keep everyone from realizing that I'm not the one pulling the dragon's strings.
And then there's Blake Drakharrow. I thought he was on my side, that I might even be able to trust him. But he betrayed me. Now I'm his only blood source. How messed up is that? In a place like Bloodwing, where power and survival are everything, this bond may well be the death of us both. Unless I can find a way to end it.
In this world of vampires, dragons, and lies, there are no happy endings. Just legends—and the darkness it takes to make them.
MY OPINION
The second book curse is officially broken.
I repeat: the second book curse is broken.
Briar Boleyn did the impossible.
“The Bond That Burns” is even better than “On Wings of Blood”. I’m still trying to understand how that’s possible, but truly — chapeau bas to the author.
“The Bond That Burns” starts exactly where the first book ends, and I was lucky enough to jump straight from book one into book two. That alone made me incredibly happy. Unfortunately, even though I tried to read the second book slowly, in small portions, the ending make it absolutely impossible not to crave the third installment (release date: March 10!).
The finale is packed with action — so much action. But that’s not all this story offers. We get answers, new questions, romance, and a whole lot of risky decisions that keep the tension high throughout the book.
I was completely pulled back into the world of Medra and Blake. It’s incredible how fast I read this book, even while actively trying to make the experience last longer. I really don’t want to leave Bloodwing Academy. Maybe I’m a little addicted… who knows?
Once again, Briar Boleyn completely won me over. This story feels like pure perfection. It has everything I want from an academy fantasy: dragons, vampires, fae, and bully romance. The spice level is higher this time — and the scenes are seriously hot. The tension between the characters is absolutely perfect. I found myself talking to Medra and Blake almost the entire time I was reading. I’m utterly in love with this story.
“The Bond That Burns” is a perfect second book in the series. And that cliffhanger? Briar, have mercy. I can’t wait to read the third book, and I’m counting the days until the continuation.
Highly recommended.
"When you’re sad, I’m sad. When you’re happy, I’m happy. And when you’re in danger . . .” My voice faltered.
“What?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
I looked away from her, my jaw clenching. “When you’re in danger, I feel like I’d gladly give up my life and everything in it to keep you safe.”
