„Lights Out” by Navessa Allen

BLURB

I want someone with a soul as black as night. Someone who would burn the world down for me and not lose a single minute of sleep over it.

Trauma nurse Aly Cappellucci doesn’t need any more kinks. She likes the one she’s landed on just fine. To her, nothing could top the masked men she follows online. Unless one of those men was shirtless, heavily tattooed, and waiting for her in her bedroom. She dreams about being hunted by one in particular, of him chasing her down and doing deliciously dark things to her willing body. She never could have guessed that by sending one drunken text, those dreams would become her new reality.

I want things most people don’t, craving darkness and depravity instead of light and love.

Josh Hammond has spent his life avoiding the limelight, but his online persona is another story. At night, he posts masked thirst traps for his millions of fans to drool over, but one follower has caught his eye: Aly. After reading a comment begging him to break into her house wearing a mask, he decides to take her up on her offer.

Together, Aly and Josh live out their darkest fantasies, unaware that Aly has captured the attention of someone else. Someone with far more sinister intentions than a little light stalking. As Josh turns from predator to protector and the stakes heighten, he must ask himself how far he’s willing to go for the woman he’s obsessed with.

MY OPINION

„Lights Out” is the first book in the „Into Darkness” series — and one of those viral TikTok romances you’ve definitely seen if you spend even a little time on BookTok.

Aly works as a trauma nurse. She deals with a lot of shit every day at the hospital. She’s single, but the moment she gets home… her dirty little secret comes out. She’s obsessed with one anonymous guy online. She talks to him, fantasizes about him, gets dirty with him — even though she has no idea who he is.
Until one day, her dream becomes reality: she opens a livestream and sees her own bedroom… and him — shirtless, tattooed, sitting on her bed.
That’s the moment Aly and Josh’s story starts.

„Lights Out” is a funny, dark, chaotic romance about two people hiding from their problems behind screens. But the moment they meet, they both know: this is it. This is exactly what they’ve been looking for. They’re perfect for each other. They don’t try to fix one another — Aly accepts Josh, and Josh accepts Aly exactly as they are. With all the madness, the trauma, and yes… the cat.

This book reads ridiculously fast. You sit down, flip a few pages, and suddenly you’re staring at the final chapter wondering when the hell that happened. It has that addictive flow — the kind that makes time disappear.

The tension between Aly and Josh is perfect. A cat-and-mouse game with spice, obsession, and a whole lot of steam. Even when they aren’t together physically, they’re still thinking about each other, still being naughty, still pushing boundaries.

„Lights Out” is a light(ish) dark stalker romance — ideal for anyone who wants to dip their toes into the darker side of the genre. The trigger warnings are there, the content is dark, but everything is written in a way that makes it more accessible than hardcore dark romance.

If you’re into masked, tattooed men and intense, obsessive dynamics, Aly and Josh’s story is exactly what you’re looking for.
